    • How to actually book on Treatwell

A neighbourhood-by-neighbourhood guide to Rome’s best hair salons, nail bars, facial studios and spas, with verified reviews, transparent pricing, and the kind of instant online booking you’d have at home.

A high-angle aerial view of Rome, featuring the iconic Colosseum in the foreground. The historic city spans out towards the horizon under a cloudy sky. A large orange banner at the top displays the “treatwell” logo.

    Why this guide exists

Things to book in Rome before you need them: a rooftop dinner, a Sunday visit to the Galleria Borghese, a Vatican skip-the-line, and (the one nobody thinks of until it’s too late) whatever beauty appointment is part of your routine back home on a Tuesday.

Every summer, a particular kind of panic settles on travellers to Rome around day three: the sun has found a way to your skin, the humidity has found a way to your hair, the sanpietrini have found a way to your feet, and the salon bookings you’d normally make on autopilot in your home city have turned into a minor research project you weren’t expecting. We’ve all been there.

We’ve written this guide to end that research project. Every salon below is available to book on Treatwell, which means you can read verified reviews, see the price before you book, and turn up in the chair without wasting precious holiday time on research. Five neighbourhoods, nineteen salons, the cuts a Roman friend would actually send you to.

A note on what you’ll find here (and what you won’t)

If you’ve searched “English speaking hair salon Rome” before, you’ve seen the same four or five names repeated on every expat blog for a decade: the American-owned salon near Campo de’ Fiori, the celebrity stylist off Piazza di Spagna, the Piazza del Popolo institution. Those salons exist and they’re fine. But they’re not the only places in Rome where English is spoken, the staff is excellent, and the experience is great.

This guide is different. Every salon listed here is on Treatwell, which means three things:

    1. The reviews are verified. Every rating comes from a customer who has actually booked and showed up. No mystery ratings, no fake reviews, no guesswork.
    2. You can book online instantly. No phone calls in Italian, no DMs, no “is this place still open?” anxiety.
    3. Prices are visible before you book. No surprises, no tourist markup.

The salons below are where local Romans actually go. Our job is to bring that local knowledge to you: the treatments, the prices, the why-here.

The treatments that matter for a Rome summer

Before we start the tour, a quick word on what to book, and what it should cost. Based on how Treatwell customers actually book during summer months, these are the six treatments that do the heavy lifting, with rough price ranges to calibrate your expectations:

    • Gel or BIAB manicure (from around €25 to €45). Survives the Tyrrhenian sea, the cobblestones, and countless Aperol Spritzes.
    • Wash, gloss and blow-dry (from around €40 to €70). Because Roman humidity deserves a strategy, not a prayer. A full blowout sits at the higher end; a simple wash-and-dry closer to the lower.
    • Hydrating facial / deep cleansing (from around €50 to €90). The “Clean Girl” reset after a long-haul flight, or a pre-sun prep.
    • Lymphatic drainage or deep tissue massage (from around €60 to €100 for 60 minutes). Twenty thousand steps a day through ancient streets has consequences.
    • Waxing (from around €15 for small areas, €35 to €50 for full leg). The pre-beach non-negotiable.
    • Traditional barbershop cut / hot-towel shave (from around €25 to €45). Italian barbering is a legitimate tourist experience in itself.

Exact prices vary by salon and are always visible on each Treatwell profile before you book. No walk-in markup, no “tourist tax.”

    Now, the tour.

    1. Where to book near the Spanish Steps & Trevi Fountain

What you’re doing here: Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Via Condotti shopping, long lunches in Piazza Navona.

This is the oldest, most cinematic part of Rome, and (precisely because it’s preserved as a historic district) it has very few registered beauty venues within its tightest streets. The ones that are here tend to be small, specialised, and excellent. If you’re staying near the Spanish Steps or shopping Via Condotti, these are your closest options.

    The hero: FaceTraining® Studio

Via Vittoria, 76, two minutes from Piazza di Spagna

A minimalist studio featuring a wood-slatted feature wall with a backlit logo. The treatment area includes professional burgundy leather chairs and a neon light installation depicting a stylised facial muscle diagram on a glass partition.

Hidden on one of the prettiest side streets off Via del Corso, FaceTraining is where local Romans book for non-invasive facial treatments built around manual techniques: micro-lifting, contouring, hydration. With hundreds of five-star reviews, it’s the kind of small specialised studio you’d never find without a recommendation. Book: a hydrating or lifting facial after your flight to freshen up.

The classic Roman cut: BM Parrucchieri

Via Venti Settembre, 63, near the Quirinale

A long-established Roman hairdresser – old-school in the best way. One of the highest-rated traditional salons in central Rome, and the kind of place where a blow-dry means a proper blow-dry. Book: a wash, gloss and blow-dry the morning of a rooftop dinner. You’ll understand the difference immediately.

The neighbourhood gem: Bennibò Beauty Lab

Via del Monte della Farina, 32, between Campo de’ Fiori and Largo Argentina

A stylish modern interior featuring a cantilevered wood and metal staircase. Lush trailing plants hang from the ceiling between the steps, and rows of colourful nail polish bottles are displayed on sleek transparent shelves on the white wall.

A full-service beauty studio tucked in a lane between two of the most atmospheric piazzas in Rome. Small, personal, and all-inclusive: nails, facials, waxing under one roof. Book: a gel manicure plus express facial appointment combo before a night out.

    Why book here

You’re spending most of your day in this neighbourhood anyway, between museums, lunch, and shopping, so a 60-minute treatment is the most efficient break you’ll ever take. And the streets themselves are the best thing about the appointment: you’re not losing tourist time, you’re gaining an experience.

    2. The best beauty salons near the Vatican

What you’re doing here: Vatican Museums, St. Peter’s, Castel Sant’Angelo, then shopping along Via Cola di Rienzo (the locals’ Via del Corso).

Prati is elegant, residential, and significantly more polished than people would expect for a neighbourhood this close to a tourist epicentre. The beauty scene here is genuinely excellent (Romans themselves book in Prati) and it’s the area where you’ll find the widest range of options per square metre.

    The full-service pick: Relaxà

    Via dei Gracchi, 116

One of the highest-rated beauty salons in central Rome, with hundreds of five-star reviews. Facials, manicures, waxing, massage, the whole shebang. Book: a full “recovery” combo after a long morning exploring the Vatican Museums. A massage will genuinely change how the rest of your trip feels.

The Prati institution: La Maison della Bellezza Prati

    Via degli Scipioni, 238

A massage room with warm, moody orange lighting and flickering candles. Red rose petals are arranged in a circular pattern around a central candle on the treatment table, with beauty products neatly organised on a shelf behind.

Another Prati icon, known for consistency across every service on the menu. Book: gel manicure plus pedicure combo, because you’ve been walking twenty thousand steps a day and your feet deserve a little treat.

The hair refresh: Paeonia Beauty Salon

    Via Riccardo Grazioli Lante, 48

Calm, considered, and unfussy, with a loyal following among Prati regulars. Book: a hair gloss treatment for colour revival on hair that’s been through Mediterranean sun and sea.

The barbershop worth the detour: Tondere Barberia In Prati

Via Catullo, 11, five minutes from the Vatican

A high-end traditional barbershop with rich wooden cabinetry, vintage-style patterned floor tiles, and professional barber chairs in red, green, and navy blue. Traditional grooming products are displayed on the shelving units.

For the men who want to treat themselves to a proper Italian barbershop experience (cut, beard, hot-towel shave) rather than a quick chain trim. Book: a full cut-and-shave as an afternoon appointment between the Vatican and dinner.

    Why book here

Prati is where you can genuinely treat beauty as part of the day’s itinerary rather than an afterthought. It’s a 10-minute walk from St. Peter’s, fully residential (meaning calmer streets, real cafes, actual Romans), and the salon quality is consistently high. If you only have time to book one treatment during your entire trip, book it here.

    3. A guide to Monti, Esquilino & Termini

What you’re doing here: wandering Via dei Serpenti and Via del Boschetto, vintage shopping, natural wine bars at sunset, a morning at Santa Maria Maggiore.

Monti is Rome’s most walkable creative neighbourhood, the kind of place where you come for one aperitivo but stay for three. The salons here tend to match the neighbourhood personality: independent, design-conscious, slightly alternative.

The sustainable hair pick: Ricciocapriccio Eco

Via dei Sabelli, 64, on the Esquilino edge of Monti

A hairdresser specialising in curly hair and eco-conscious treatments, genuinely rare in Rome, and worth a detour if your hair needs more than a standard trim. Book: a curl-specific cut or a scalp treatment.

The spa escape: The Hive Spa & Fitness

Via Torino, 6, between Termini and the Quirinale

A luxury spa’s thermal area with dramatic blue and green atmospheric lighting. The space features a wooden Finnish sauna, a steam room entrance, and a central mosaic-tiled feature with steps leading to relaxation zones.

A proper urban spa with a hammam, sauna and massage menu. The Roman hidden gem where you can spend two hours and come out a different person. Book: a 60-minute deep tissue or lymphatic drainage massage on a rest day.

The Esquilino barbershop: Bad Barber Shop

Via Tiburtina, 214, on the Esquilino side, towards San Lorenzo

One of the highest-rated barbers in the whole eastern half of Rome. A classic Italian barbershop experience (cut, beard shape, hot-towel shave) in a neighbourhood that’s a 15-minute walk from Termini and a world away from any tourist markup. Book: a full cut-and-shave as an afternoon stop on a day you’re exploring San Lorenzo’s bookshops and aperitivo bars.

    Why book here

Monti is where you slow down. The whole neighbourhood invites you to linger, and a salon appointment here feels less like a chore and more like a continuation of the afternoon. If you’re here during Estate Romana (June to September), the outdoor film screenings and late-night bars mean you’ll want to look like you belong. Monti’s salons understand this better than anyone.

    4. Where local Romans book in Parioli & Flaminio

What you’re doing here: Galleria Borghese, Villa Borghese gardens, MAXXI museum, concerts at the Auditorium Parco della Musica, summer evenings at Rock in Roma (held at Ippodromo delle Capannelle, but the audience lives up here).

This is Rome’s most residential-elegant spot: tree-lined streets, embassies, the Borghese gallery. The beauty scene reflects that. If you’re staying in Parioli or near Piazza Fiume, you’ll have more high-quality salon options within walking distance than almost anywhere else in the city.

    The hair heavyweight: Estens.

Via Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, 22, Flaminio

A vintage-chic salon with white and forest green walls. It features floral patterned wallpaper, an assortment of irregularly shaped gold-framed mirrors, a professional make-up station, and plush green velvet seating.

One of the highest-rated hairdressers in all of Rome, with hundreds of five-star reviews. Cuts, colour, gloss, treatments: the full menu executed at a level that you’d probably expect in Milan. Book: if you have one “big” hair treatment you’ve been saving for your trip, book it here.

The full-service luxury pick: Beauty Grace Estetica Sunshine

    Via Reggio Emilia, 77-79

A proper full-service beauty salon covering facials, waxing, manicures, and body treatments, known for a calm, unhurried atmosphere. Book: a hydrating facial plus gel manicure pairing, the classic “holiday reset.”

The Parioli classic: Kalè Beauty Wellness Nails

    Viale Parioli, 101 A/B

A bright treatment room with a massage table draped in a grey towel. The wall is decorated with pastel-toned abstract art and motivational quotes, while decorative white branches and candles create a calm atmosphere.

On the main avenue, exactly what the name promises: beauty, wellness, nails, all under one roof. A neighbourhood favourite among Parioli regulars. Book: a pedicure with paraffin treatment on a rest day.

The wellness upgrade: Cryo Re Start

Via Gian Giacomo Porro, 15, Parioli

A proper wellness centre with a menu that goes beyond the classic spa stop: cryolipolysis, radiofrequency, body sculpting treatments for travellers who want recovery plus results. Book: a cryolipolysis session or a body treatment if you’ve got beachy destinations coming up after Rome.

The nail + face hybrid: Piccolo Fiore Face & Nails

    Via Savoia, 36

A vibrant manicure station with bright pink walls and a hot pink neon sign. Lilac velvet chairs with gold legs sit at a minimalist white desk equipped with professional LED nail lamps.

Small, precise, well-priced. Book: a same-day manicure plus brow lamination combo if you’ve got an Instagram-heavy evening ahead.

    Why book here

This is where you come for the premium treatment, the one you’d normally save for a special occasion back home. Quality is consistently high, pricing is fair, and the neighbourhood itself is a lovely walk between Villa Borghese’s gardens and the Flaminio cafes.

    5. Beauty in Trastevere, Testaccio & Ostiense

What you’re doing here: dinner in Trastevere’s ivy-covered lanes, market mornings at Testaccio, aperitivo along the Ostiense street-art corridor, maybe a jazz gig at Caffè Letterario.

Trastevere itself has very few licensed beauty venues (it’s mostly restaurants, bars and residential buildings), but the neighbouring Testaccio and Ostiense areas have a strong independent salon scene, all within a short walk or bus ride of your Trastevere dinner reservation.

The Trastevere pick: Mes Amis Esthétique

    Via Florio, 6, southern Trastevere

A small, personal beauty studio with a cult local following. The name tells you the atmosphere. Book: a waxing appointment or a quick express facial on an arrival day.

    The Trastevere alternative: BioEssence

Via di San Crisogono, 39, right in the heart of Trastevere

On one of Trastevere’s most atmospheric streets. Organic, calm, full-service. Book: a relaxing massage after a long travel day.

The Testaccio wellness stop: Coconat Estetica Benessere

    Via Padre Semeria, 59

A sophisticated pedicure station with two deep green velvet armchairs and pink cushions. White foot baths are built into a grey raised platform, set against a mural of large tropical leaves on the back wall.

A proper wellness-focused estetica with a strong massage and face menu, and a loyal following across the river. Book: a deep tissue massage after a market morning and the Non-Catholic Cemetery walk.

    The nail specialist: Ro.Ma Nails

    Via Capitan Bavastro, 68, Ostiense

A dedicated nail studio with a serious gel and BIAB following. Book: a long-wear BIAB manicure that will survive the rest of your trip and your flight home.

    Why book here

Trastevere is the neighbourhood most travellers save for their last night, so the salons in this area are perfect for a “send-off” treatment. A massage in Testaccio on the afternoon of your final day, then dinner in Trastevere, then a walk along the Tiber. A send-off that makes sense.

For expats, remote workers & digital nomads living in Rome

If you’re based in Rome (full-time, part-time, or on a six-month “let’s see how it goes” quest), your beauty problem is slightly different. You don’t need “tourist-friendly.” You need a regular. A salon you can walk into three weeks in a row, where they remember your go-to haircut, where you can book an 8pm slot on a Tuesday without a phone call, and where you won’t end up paying exorbitant tourist prices because your Italian is still a work in progress.

Every salon in this guide fits that brief. Three specific picks, if you want a starting point:

    • Estens. (Flaminio) for anyone who wants a consistent relationship with a top-tier hairstylist without crossing the city.
    • Relaxà (Prati) for full-service, broad menu, the kind of place that becomes your default for facials, waxing, and manicures.
    • The Hive Spa & Fitness (near Termini) for the monthly “proper reset” when city life has worn you down.

Book on Treatwell once and every future booking takes thirty seconds.

    Booking around Rome’s summer events

Rome goes from “lovely” to “impossible to imagine anywhere else” during the summer festival season. Here’s how to book around the big moments:

    • Estate Romana (June to September): the umbrella programme for Rome’s outdoor cinema, music and cultural events. Salons in Monti, Trastevere and Ostiense book up fastest on event weekends. Book at least 3 days ahead for anything on a Friday or Saturday.
    • Rock in Roma (June and July, Ippodromo delle Capannelle): the big outdoor music festival. Travellers staying in Parioli and Flaminio use this as a reason to book a full blow-dry plus makeup combo on gig day.
    • Lungo il Tevere (June to August): the nightly riverside markets and bars along the Tiber. A late-afternoon massage in Testaccio before an evening down by the river is one of the better summer combinations Rome offers.
    • Wedding season (May to September): Rome is one of Europe’s top destination-wedding cities, and nearly every guest we speak to asks the same question: “where can I get my hair and nails done on the morning of the wedding?” Book at least a week ahead for any salon in Centro Storico, Prati or Parioli on a Friday or Saturday. If you’re the bride, book the earliest morning slot the salon offers to have buffer time for photos and arrival.

How to actually book on Treatwell

It works the way you’d want it to. Search by neighbourhood or “near me” once you’re in the city, filter by treatment, and read verified reviews from customers who actually showed up. Prices are visible before you book, which sounds basic but is genuinely rare. The same Treatwell account works across Italy, Spain, Greece, Portugal, France, Germany, the UK and the Netherlands: book in London, walk into the salon in Rome.

Book instantly, online, 24/7. No phone calls in Italian. No Instagram DMs. No WhatsApp. No “is this place still open?” A confirmed slot in under a minute.

Passport, tickets, Treatwell. That’s the summer travel checklist now.

    FAQs

Do I need to speak Italian to book a salon in Rome?

Not to book. Treatwell lets you book online: pick a treatment, choose a time, confirm. No phone call, no DM, no conversation required until you’re actually in the chair. Prices are visible upfront, star ratings speak for themselves, and many salons in this guide have English-speaking staff on the day. But the whole point is that it doesn’t matter either way: the booking itself needs no conversation at all.

How far ahead should I book?

For normal weeks, 24 to 48 hours ahead is plenty. For Estate Romana weekends, Rock in Roma gig days, or wedding season, aim for 5 to 7 days ahead, especially for Friday and Saturday slots in Centro Storico, Prati and Parioli.

What’s the most-booked treatment by travellers to Rome?

Nails and hair are the summer heroes. Gel and BIAB manicures survive cobblestones, sea salt, and long days of walking. A proper blow-dry before a rooftop dinner is the second most common booking, especially during the June to September stretch.

    Are prices higher for tourists?

On Treatwell, no. Prices are visible before you book, and what you see is what you pay. No walk-in surprises, no “tourist menu”, no awkward maths at the till.

Can I book from outside Italy before my trip?

Yes, absolutely. Many travellers book their Rome appointments before the flight. Booking opens weeks in advance for most salons, so if you know your dates, you can lock in the prime slots early (especially useful for wedding guests and anyone travelling around Estate Romana).

Is there anywhere to go on a Sunday?

Most Roman salons close Sundays and Mondays. A handful in Prati, Parioli and Centro Storico open Sunday mornings, and you can filter by opening hours directly on the app. Plan ahead if Sunday is your only free day.
